Principal Secretary, State Department for Irrigation, CPA Ephantus Kimotho, CBS, today chaired a high-level meeting with World Bank Kenya’s Program-for-Results (PforR) Specialist Victor Vazquez and Pieter Waalewijn to deliberate on strategies for accelerating irrigation development in Kenya for Farmer-Led Irrigation Development and Community Irrigation Scheme.
The discussions focused on strengthening ongoing collaboration between the State Department and the World Bank to scale up irrigation investments through results-based financing, improve sector efficiency, and enhance accountability in project delivery.
The meeting also explored potential PforR interventions under the upcoming irrigation programs, targeting increased water storage, modernization of existing schemes, and improved agricultural productivity for smallholder farmers.
The Principal Secretary emphasized the Government’s commitment to leveraging PforR instruments to fast-track implementation of flagship irrigation projects aligned to the National Irrigation Sector Investment Plan (NISIP 2025–2035) and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
