Konza Technopolis Site Visit
This week a delegation led by Director Irrigation Quality Assurance and Licensing Nguma Kani conducted an official tour of Konza Technopolis. The visit marks a significant step as the ministry prepares to engage with and leverage the opportunities presented by the Technopolis, aligning with its broader mandate of sustainable development and innovation in the agricultural sector.
Konza Technopolis a flagship Vision 2030 project of the Government of Kenya, is being developed as a world-class science park and innovation hub. Located approximately 60 kilometers southeast of Nairobi, the Technopolis spans over 5,000 acres and is the largest smart city project in East and Central Africa.
Widely referred to as the “Silicon Savannah,” Konza is designed to position Kenya as a leading technology and innovation hub in Africa. The city integrates cutting-edge infrastructure, sustainable urban planning, and a strong emphasis on research, commercialization, and digital transformation.
Managed by the Konza Technopolis Development Authority under the Ministry of Information, Communications, and the Digital Economy, the project aims to contribute at least 2% to Kenya’s national GDP, driving inclusive economic growth through science, technology and innovation.
The State Department’s visit underscores the growing synergy between technological advancement and key sectors like irrigation and agriculture, fostering a future-ready, digitally empowered economy.
