Public baraza hosted by Hon. Mburu Kahagara, MP for Lari, at the Escarpment Shopping Centre
Principal Secretary for Irrigation, CPA Ephantus Kimotho, CBS, accompanied by Irrigation Secretary Eng. Vincent Kabuti, OGW, and Secretary Administration Yatich Kipkemei, MBS, today addressed a public baraza hosted by Hon. Mburu Kahagara, MP for Lari, at the Escarpment Shopping Centre. The gathering brought together community members to discuss the Escarpment Belt Irrigation Water Project.
The Lari Escarpment Irrigation Project, located in Lari Constituency, Kiambu County, is set to benefit approximately 500 farmers across 350 acres of land.
The project will provide about 8.6 million cubic meters of water, sourced from the Gatamaiyu River, a permanent water source ensuring a reliable supply. The irrigation system will be gravity-fed and will utilize a piped sprinkler irrigation method.
A key component of the project is the conveyance pipeline, which stretches over 1,450 meters and passes through both Kinale and Kireita forests along one side of the Limuru-Naivasha Highway. The challenging terrain, marked by numerous valleys and stream crossings, requires high-quality pipes to ensure the durability and efficiency of the system.
Local residents have long suffered from chronic water shortages, and they view this project as a much-needed solution that will bring renewed hope to the people of Lari.
As per the promise made by H.E. the President, the Principal Secretary, confirmed that the project design is now complete and will be advertised by the end of this month.
Also in attendance were Director of Irrigation and Drainage, Eng. Bernard Onyango, Eng. Samuel Gichane, CIT members, and other officials from the State Department.
