SDI MEETING WITH KENGEN

The State Department for Irrigation is committed to leveraging partnerships to enhance food security, reduce farm imports, and minimize over-reliance on rain-fed agriculture.
On behalf of the Principal Secretary for Irrigation,CPA Ephantus Kimotho CBS, the Secretary for Land Reclamation, Climate Resilience, and Irrigation Water Management, Mr. Joel Tanui, today chaired a meeting with a delegation from KenGen led by the Managing Director and CEO, Eng. Peter Njenga. The discussions focused on incorporating an irrigation component into the Seven Forks Solar Project in Mbeere South Constituency, a project funded by the African Development Bank.
While the project already has a domestic water supply component, the Member of Parliament for Mbeere South, Hon. Muriuki Benard, together with the community, requested an irrigation component to cover the larger constituency. This addition will enable year-round farming, boost food production, and create employment opportunities.
To this end, a joint technical committee has been established to design and incorporate a community irrigation program for Mbeere South.
The State Department for Irrigation will continue collaborating with relevant agencies to ensure maximum utilization of available resources for sustainable agricultural transformation.
