Buruma Irrigation Scheme, Lower River Lumi and Murabani Irrigation projects inspection

Principal Secretary for Irrigation, CPA Ephantus Kimotho, CBS, has paid a courtesy call to Taita Taveta County Commissioner Josephine Onunga ahead of an inspection tour of key irrigation initiatives in the county.

The visit will cover the Buruma Irrigation Scheme as well as the Lower River Lumi and Murabani Irrigation projects,  strategic undertakings set to accelerate agricultural productivity in the region.

Taita Taveta, one of Kenya’s expansive ASAL counties, plays a critical role in bridging the national rice deficit.

The Buruma scheme currently supports 2,000 acres under active rice production, with the potential to expand and unlock up to 30,000 acres for agricultural use.
