Exploring strategic areas of collaboration under the National Irrigation Sector Investment Plan (NISIP)
Earlier today, the Secretary for Land Reclamation, Climate Resilience, and Irrigation Water Management, Mr. Joel Tanui, hosted a delegation from Mercy Corps at Maji House on behalf of the Principal Secretary. The Mercy Corps team was led by Country Director Mr. William Baron.
The meeting focused on exploring strategic areas of collaboration under the National Irrigation Sector Investment Plan (NISIP), particularly the revitalization of irrigation in the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) region and the operationalization of community managed irrigation schemes. A proposed joint venture aims to catalyze private sector investment in irrigation development.
Both parties agreed to co-create climate-resilient programmes targeting smallholder farmers. These initiatives will enhance livelihoods through improved access to markets, financial services, and capacity building.
Mercy Corps reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening access to critical resources and services for vulnerable and underserved Kenyan communities. Their vision aligns with building a safe, inclusive, and prosperous society by improving food security and promoting reliable access to sustainably produced, safe, and nutritious food.
The State Department remains committed to ensuring that strategic investments in irrigation contribute to the national goal of achieving food security.
