CS Ministry Of Water Sanitation & Irrigation Sicily K. Kariuki (Mrs) E.G.H Visit To Irrigation Projects In Nyandarua County

February 12, 2021, CS Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Sicily K. Kariuki (Mrs), E.G.H accompanied by National Irrigation Authority CEO Gitonga Mugambi and other officials from National Irrigation Authority toured Mumbi Dam Irrigation Project, Upper Gitwe Irrigation Project and Gwa Kiongo Dam Irrigation Project in Nyandarua County to assess the progress of the works in those projects.

Mumbi Dam Irrigation Project in Ol-Kalou sub- County has an acreage of 150 acres and once complete by May 2021 is expected to benefit 100 household farmers. 80% of the Dam desiltation is complete.

Upper gitwe Irrigation Project in Kinangop sub- County has an acreage of 200 acres and once complete by June 2021 is expected to benefit 300 household farmers. High value commercial vegetables are the main crops in the region. The project is 45% complete.

Gwa Kiongo Dam Irrigation Project in Ol-Kalou sub-County has an acreage of 500 acres and once complete by June 2021 is expected to benefit 1,000 household farmers. The project is at Review of the design and analysis of method statement.

The CS was pleased with the progress of the works in those projects. She notified the farmers that the Authority will train them on the best farming practices so that they can fully benefit from those projects as the government continues to implement projects meant to realize the Big 4.
